40th Copa del Rey MAPFRE
From July 30th to August 6th the 40th edition of the Copa del Rey will be held in the bay of Palma.
Once again Mallorca hosts one of the most important events in the international sailing calendar, the Copa del Rey MAPFRE, and as in the previous edition, the participation is once again at pre-pandemic figures, with the participation of 109 boats of more than 20 nationalities, competing in nine different classes:
- BMW ORC 1
- BMW ORC 2
- BMW ORC 3
- BMW ORC 4
- ClubSwan 50
- ClubSwan 42
- ClubSwan 36
- Herbalife J
- Sothebys Womens Cup, which will sail in the J80 class
The 30th and 31st of July have been reserved for the confirmation of registration and enrollment of the participating boats.
In addition, on the 31st, as is tradition, the official training regatta was held, in which around 90 boats from seven of the nine participating classes took part.
The competition program will consist of six days of racing.
Monday, August 1 marks the start of the competition, which will last until August 6 and all races are held at 13:00.
The Mallorca Sotheby’s Women’s Cup and Herbalife J70 classes will start their official competition a day later, on Tuesday, August 2.
The event is divided into two phases: Preliminary Series and Final Series.
The first three days of competition (Monday to Wednesday) are included in the Preliminary Series, which consists of 5 non-dismissable races.
The position obtained during these days will determine the points with which each team will start the Final Series, which lasts until the 6th.
All these competitions will be accompanied by a full social program.
Among the events to be held are the Shipowners’ Cocktail organized by Mapfre and held on August 4; and the expected trophy presentation presided over by King Felipe in the Ses Voltes area, at the foot of the cathedral of Palma, on the last day of the competition.
This regatta is organized by the Real Club Náutico de Palma and the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, sponsored by MAPFRE and has the institutional collaboration of the Government of the Balearic Islands, the Palma City Council, the Autoridad Portuaria and the Balearic Sailing Federation.
