Palma Superyatch Cup 2019

Excitement is running high now that the 23rd edition of the longest running superyacht regatta in Europe – the Superyacht Cup Palma – in almost upon us.   Running from 19-22 June at the Muelle Viejo, Palma, the first race of this highly anticipated 4-day regatta will take place on June 20, 2019.

So many famous boats, so many old and new friends – this regatta is splendid mix of racing and sociability, with the prizes for each day’s racing being presented on the same evening – with the Owners Dinner taking place on Friday 21st.   Yachties love it for its racing and owners and guests love it for its sociability – and where better to mix the two than in Palma de Mallorca, the hub of the superyacht services industry.  And it is this mix, along with the charms of Palma itself with its vibrant nightlife and wide variety of restaurants all within walking distance to the old town, that makes owners want to take part in this race.  The Bay of Palma’s somewhat sheltered position means that the seas rarely become huge, while the thermal winds are special and relatively reliable, relatively of course being a relative word!

And in the unfortunate event of something going wrong, you have the best repair services in the Med on hand to fix it for you – quickly, efficiently, professionally.

All eyes are going to be on the two J class yachts, Velsheda (winner last year) and Topaz as they battle it out for supremacy.   Others returning after last year are Missy and Winwin..

Returning to the fray for the first time since 2007 is the World Superyacht Award winning schooner Meteor – and at 51.5m the largest entry (at time of writing).

Others taking part are Hyperion, Tulip, Bequia, Kealoha, Open Season, Huckleberry, Nilaya, Leopard III, Stay Calm and Child of Lir.

Although the event is private and by invitation only, the Race Village will be open to the public for a few short hours (09.00 – 13.00) on Saturday 22nd.   The new-look Village will provide more space for owners, guests and crews to enjoy the events and parties over the three-day regatta and will include dedicated areas for the Superyacht Cup’s many partners, friends and suppliers.

Several members of BYD (Balearics Yachting Destination) are amongst the supporters and sponsors of the Superyacht Cup, such as Astilleros de Mallorca, STP and RSB Rigging, all experts in the repair (and refit) of superyachts.  So, should anything untoward go wrong, one couldn’t be in a better place for the repairs needed to get your superyacht back into the race in super quick time.
