Port Adriano’s Marina Management Company Ocibar Acquires Port Tarraco

BYD member Port Adriano is growing their portfolio outside of the Balearic Islands – Ocibar acquires Port Tarraco

The superyacht marina management company, Ocibar who already manage the renowned Port Adriano, one of our members at BYD, have recently acquired Port Tarraco, their first marina outside of the Balearic Islands.  Ocibar also manages Marina Botafoc in Ibiza and due to the ideal location and similar infrastructure, Port Tarraco will be the perfect extension to their portfolio.

Ocibar manages top superyacht marinas in the Mediterranean

Port Tarraco is located just under an hour’s drive away from the centre of Barcelona and contains 33 berths for yachts between 45 and 160m. The marina has recently been renovated in order to create less berths but accommodate for even larger yachts. It’s now one of the only ports in Spain which can berth various yachts of 100m+ in size. With these changes to the port, Ocibar plans to promote Port Tarraco as one of the top superyacht marinas in the Med, where previously it has been missed of the main circuit.

Antonio Zaforteza, CEO of Ocibar told Superyachtnews; “In terms of the quality of the infrastructure, it matches what we are offering in Port Adriano, and it expands what we can offer with our product range, both in terms of the size of yachts the marina can accommodate and the level of pricing. Also, there are synergies with the way that we market our existing marinas. So, it is a good fit in this sense.”

Since 2014 Ocibar have been in tenders with various marinas around the Mediterranean but the fit just wasn’t right due to either pricing or the value Ocibar could add to their infrastructure. After almost a year of negotiations with Port Tarraco the agreement was finally signed this February 2020.

Port Tarraco was previously owned by the Qatari Diar fund which brought some restrictions to use of the marina for certain yachts (depending on their owners) due to economic the sanctions from Qatar. With the new ownership the marina can now open up to a bigger market.

The superyacht industry after COVID-19

Antonio Zaforteza stated that they are really looking forward to opening up the yachting industry again in Spain. He believes that superyacht activity should be one of the first to have restrictions loosened as it provides maximum economic impact with minimum health and safety risks.

We’re excited to see what the future holds for Port Tarraco and the new synergy connecting Ocibar’s other marinas; Port Adriano in Mallorca and Marina Botafoc in Ibiza.
